Hello everyone! Here is my first entry to my new blog Modern George. For those that may not know, I am moving from King's Lynn, Norfolk (England) to Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) in January 2012. This journey is surprisingly of quite some significance, as this voyage was one that was taken by Cpt. George Vancouver himself, one of the first discoverers and namesake of both Vancouver Island and the City of Vancouver, who discovered the mainland and the surrounding isles in 1792.

So, I decided that on making this journey, setting out from the same origin as fine old George, I would keep a blog about all that I am going to be getting up to whilst discovering North America. First of all, I still have a few hectic weeks at work, I need to make sure I have everything that I need packed, see and say bye to all relevent loved ones in the UK, and then set sail, urm... I mean take a flight! Times have certainly changed!
